Description
Samo is Omas’s tribute to the interface between the cultures of West and East. It goes back to the origin of things and expresses a world of ideas from the 6th century BC when the island of Samos was at the peak of its role as a point of exchange of goods and thought in the Aegean sea. The great discoveries, or rather, the great inventions of modern thought began on Samos, from geometry to astronomy, poetry, engineering and architecture. Great men were born there, from Pythagoras to Aristarchus.
Samo is the Italian translation of the Greek Samos. In translation, the significance shifts and becomes the source of new meanings and new wealth. To arrive at the luxury of something unique writing traced out by the hand. Thought drawn in an original form. After almost a century of history, the fountain pen underlines the first steps which Omas began almost a century ago, by elaborating the visual signs left by the Hellenic civilisation. The Clip represents an ideal bridge between east and west. A precious and innovative mechanical spring movement lets the clip pivot around the point where it joins the cap, to make it easier to move. The Samo and Omas names are engraved on the two opposite sides, at the end of the decorations: Samo is Omas spelt backwards. This opposition and their identical nature are the start of the spiral in the sense arising from intellectual references.
The OMAS company was founded in 1925 by Armando Simoni and was shut down in 2016.
OMAS writing instruments have always stood out for their exclusive design, devised and created by OMAS entirely in Bologna’s workshop, bringing out the best of the typical characteristics of the Made in Italy style and representing a benchmark of Italian excellence and creativity in the Fountain Pen sector.
All OMAS pens have been handcrafted, in Bologna’s workshop.
Each writing instrument is the result of a multitude of delicate manual operations.
In the last years of activity, Omas gradually decreased the production of writing instruments to further improve their quality.
With every one of these majestic pen lies a piece of Italian history.
